Children's Diabetes Program

Dr. Bill Russell Diabetes

Our Children's Diabetes Program is part of the Vanderbilt Eskind Diabetes Clinic, one of the largest pediatric diabetes centers in the country. We care for more than 2,500 children with diabetes from Tennessee and nine surrounding states.

Our team

A family-centered approach to managing diabetes is central to the care we provide. Our Eskind Diabetes Clinic team includes doctors trained specifically to treat diabetes in children. Nurses and nurse practitioners are also part of the team, along with social workers, dietitians, and child life specialists.

Diabetes research

Leading-edge diabetes research is happening right here at Children's Hospital. We focus on finding better ways to manage diabetes, understanding what causes diabetes, and how to prevent or cure it.

Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet
Preventing type-1 diabetes is the main goal of TrialNet research at Vanderbilt. We offer free screenings for family members to find their risk for type-1 diabetes. Those at high risk may be eligible for prevention trials. Screenings are free and arranged throughout the U.S. at a location convenient to you.
